Food is awesome. Quiet place to meet for lunch. Good prices and service. Worth a try.
Seymour's only Japanese/Sushi restaurant is serving up many of the dishes you'd normally think you'd have to go to the big city to try. Tokyo has a wonderful atmosphere and great service. The food is delicious and brought to you with a smile. Be sure to try them out soon!
Glad this place has finally reopened. They are just getting started so give them some slack. We did dine in last night. They didn't receive their shipment of wasabi so there's that! Fish was good, roles were tasty and the miso was hot.
Tucked away in a large strip mall off of Tipton Street in Seymour, this place cuts an unassuming profile from the view of the road But once inside, you'll find an elegantly layout with soft lighting and colorful yet tasteful decor. Once I was seated, I was immediately impressed with how clean everything was. I know that's something that most restaurants would aspire to be at all times, but everything--the table, the seats, the floor--was spotless. And when I'm eating sushi, that feeds right into my experience. I ordered California roll with five pieces of nigiri and some octopus sashimi on the side. The sushi fish was remarkably fresh. I think most people that enjoy sushi would agree that that's the most crucial detail, and yet many places, whether near the coasts or not, fall short. Not this place. The fish was beautifully cut and gorgeous, The octopus had that perfect firm yet yielding texture that I love (not tough or rubbery--important) and the rice tasted great as well. Also a plus, the nigiri pieces held together much better than some other nigiri I've had. The California roll was a little spicier that I'm used to, but that was fine because I love wasabi. One of the pieces caused me to take about a 15-second pause as the wasabi tore through my sinuses. It was great. If I don't experience at least a little of that when I eat sushi, then I'm not fulfilled. Prices are very fair. The music was appropriate but a little too loud for my taste. My only main gripe is that they didn't have any sake available. They offered Kirin Ichiban and Sapporo beers, the latter of which I ordered, but I also always get a carafe of hot sake when I do sushi. Hopefully that's something they will take care of fairly soon, since I've never been to any Japanese restaurant that doesn't offer at least one basic sake option, and I almost always order some. And hot towels. I really like when the server brings out the steaming hot towels with which to wipe one's hands. That's a detail that I became accustomed to at my beloved New Japan restaurant in nearby Columbus, now sadly closed due to the owners' retirement. But the food is spot-on. I'm not sure how long they've been open. I feel not all that long since I just heard about them, and everything looked very new inside, but the food is dynamite. With a few more details worked out, they will likely win my vote for the best sushi experience currently in the area.
You have to give Tokyo props for being the only sushi place in Seymour! It's authentically decorated inside & I liked the Asian theme throughout it. It's not a large place but there are plenty of sections & I can't imagine there being a wait to sit. My booth had been worn down and had patches to try to cover the huge holes but it didn't bother me. I got the sushi with both crab and shrimp in it. I didn't care for it but also had never had shrimp in a maki roll so I figured that is just my personal preference. My husband got a bento box and he enjoyed it. Ingredients are not top quality, but for Seymour, it was pretty good. Service was fast without being rushed. They are open every day except Monday with a 2 hour break from 2-4pm.
